Watch this space: Putting human nutrition on the DSF Dashboard

One question comes up regularly from DSF members - and rightly so: Where is human nutrition in the DSF’s indicator metrics?
After all, feeding people is ultimately why the dairy sector exists.
The challenge isn’t recognising its importance. It’s finding an indicator that is meaningful, measurable and backed by reliable data, while also reflecting the sustainability dimension of the dairy sector. In other words, we need an indicator that tells a credible story, not simply one that is easy to quantify. That’s a complex challenge, but it hasn’t stopped us looking for a solution.

Human nutrition is a key deliverable in the DSF 2025 - 30 Strategic Plan, and the DSF Secretariat is now working with a group of dedicated members and colleagues from GDP, drawing on recent academic advances, to explore a robust way forward. We’re making progress and hope to share a potential approach with members shortly for comment.

Want to help shape the solution? If you’re a DSF member and would like to actively contribute to this work, please get in touch with the DSF Secretariat.
