Unlocking the Carbon Market Potential in the Livestock sector in Latin America

Global Dairy Platform (GDP) is working on an initiative supported by the Gates Foundation to explore the barriers to effective carbon markets for the livestock sector and has been conducting several regional forums to explore the more local challenges. These regional convenings will culminate in a global meeting in London in October where a final report will be delivered and consideration given to how to solve for the major barriers.

For the next regional convening, GDP is teaming up with IICA, GRSB and FEPALE for the LATAM region. Date: June 23, 2025 09:00 – 17:30, followed by a networking reception.

Where: IICA’s offices in San José, Costa Rica (virtual option available)

Key themes are:

  • Unlocking carbon market potential: opportunities, challenges, case studies, monitoring, verification
  • Methane Reduction & carbon sequestration: feed innovations, manure management, grassland carbon sinks
  • Policy & Governance: policy incentives, Article 6 opportunities, standardised measurement
  • Carbon Finance: financing dairy/beef production, private sector engagement, equitable smallholder access.
