Opportunities and challenges in using GWP* to report the impact of ruminant livestock on global temperature change
Global Warming Potential* (GWP*), a relatively new alternative metric for determining the warming impact of methane, was developed by a global group of climate scientists with leading authors from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. This article - Animal board invited review evaluates the GWP* metric explaining how it operates and provides insight into the contribution of CH4-dominated activities, such as ruminant production, to global temperature changes. Six different case studies are used to provide examples of the insights that GWP* can provide for different contexts and application in relation to livestock production.
